Charlotte Old
Wingfield passed away quietly June 13, 2003 at the Ashland Convalescent Center
after a short illness. She was born April 17, 1920 in Wellville, Va. She was the
daughter of Alexander Hamilton Old and Laura White Old. She was predeceased by
her husband, William L. Wingfield, M.D.; her son, Spotswood Old Wingfield; and
her sisters, Henrietta Ellis and Celeste Jones. She was a graduate of James
Madison University and the Medical College of Virginia School of Dietetics. She
worked as a dietician at various facilities and taught dietetics at the old
Johnston-Willis Hospital. She was a Member Emeritus of the Hanover Woman’s Club
and longtime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Hanover. She is survived by
her son and daughter-in-law, William L. Wingfield Jr. and Martha S. Wingfield of
Ashland; daughter-in-law, Joan K. Wingfield of Richmond; and her three
grandchildren, Martha Ellen Wingfield of Ashland, Elizabeth K. Wingfield and
Douglas S. Wingfield of Richmond. The family will receive friends at Reid
Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, Monday, June 16, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 17, at 1 p.m. in St. Paul’s
Episcopal Church, Hanover Courthouse, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal
